Something New

I know I'm always blogging about Presley, family, and events that we partake in, but I thought I would blog about something new. Since I was on bed rest I've been doing a lot of reading to keep myself relaxed through hard days. I've always enjoyed books because it's my escape. I like to imagine characters the way I want to imagine them. I want to picture scenes the way I want to picture them and no one could tell me it's wrong. I was given the book Eat, Pray, Love- Elizabeth Gilbert from a good friend of mine named Chelsea (also known to me as "tourist" because she comes from Oklahoma). She gave it to me as a birthday present and told me I had to read it because it will change my life. I've always respected her opinion on things, so I knew I had to give it a read. The first time I opened the book was in Maui, Hawaii last year when my husband and I went on vacation to get married. As I started reading, my reaction was bitter- sweet. I wasn't sure if I liked the book because I felt the writer was such a cry baby at times. I didn't finish the book in Hawaii; instead I took the pleasure of drinking Mai Thai's instead.

A year later.....I got put on bed rest with my pregnancy. I was really down on myself for multiple of reasons but two main ones being I could lose my new baby and I wasn't allowed to hold or tend to Presley as I was used to doing. I remember my friend "tourist" telling me how this book could change my life so I figured what the heck; I'll give it another try. I started to read and yet I found myself again being very irritated with this woman. I told myself to continue reading it. In a peculiar way reading her pathetic cries made me feel better about me. It made me feel stronger than her, and even though it was just one person I still felt stronger. I read on, and out of nowhere this book through me for a loop. All of a sudden I couldn't put it down.

As I continued to finish up the book I realized how much I loved reading about the different people, places, and experiences this woman was facing. I learned so much about different cultures, love, and prayer. In the end, I felt like it did change something apart of me. It gave me hope in some way, it made me want to be more of a peaceful person. I loved the book in the end. I told my friend tourist that this book was like a drumstick (ice cream) it has a chocolate nutty shell that was just giving you a taste or a tease and then you get to the vanilla part (the boring part of the book)but then once u bypass the vanilla what do you get? The chocolate part at the end of the cone (the best part in my opinion). I recommend reading it if you haven't already. If you are like me and find it boring, trust me just stick it out because the end of the book makes it all worth it!


One more thing, I saw that they are making a movie about this book starring Julia Roberts. I hope they are able to capture the details that made this book amazing. I think I need to take my toursit friend on a movie date since she is the one who introduced me to this book in the first place :)
